1 Along E wall, with a return on both N and S walls, three sections, each of three panels of stylised, linen-fold wall panelling with composite-moulded cornice with billeting, moulded stiles, stopped, chamfered bottom rail and chamfered plinth.

301 CROSS Ph SANCTUARY
1 Free-standing, three-stepped St Chad’s cross. Square, wood-framed, decoratively moulded, aluminium panels at top, centre, bottom and at ends of arms. ‘ihs’in unicals is on the central square panel with, at the top, the eagle symbol of St John, to the right, the winged ox of St Luke, at the bottom, the winged man of St Matthew and to the left, the winged lion of St Mark. The horizontal and vertical arms are decorated with grapes and vine leaves. Base slightly damaged.

1 Two rails, one to either side of a central opening. Each rail has three rows of composite moulding and is supported by two brass supports each with two spiral sections and a central knot, composite-moulded knot at top and bottom. The bottom knot rests on part-circular projections Each wooden rail is constructed using two parts.

306 CHOIR STALL Ph CHANCEL, S wall
1 Choir stall with bench and desk. The bench has a close-boarded back with moulded top rail and slab ends with scrolled moulded elbows. The plain projecting seat has curved ends. The desk has five panels decorated with blind gothic tracery separated by moulded muntins all between top and bottom chamfered rails. The panel at the E end is narrower. There is a bookrest with a bookledge, the upper edge of which has roll and dentil moulding. There is a book cupboard at the inner side of the desk at the W end. The ends of the desk have cavetto and roll-moulded edges which end in a stopped chamfer at the base. Each bench end has a foliated poppy head. The choir stall is raised on a wooden raft.

307 CHOIR STALL EXTENSION Ph CHANCEL, S wall
1 Separate, removable desk at W end of choir stall, standing on choir stall raft with single panel of blind gothic tracery, similar in style to the stall at 306, and foliated poppy head ends. Roll and dentil moulding at upper edge of the panel also matches 306 above. Book cupboard at back, sloping bookrest top.

308 CHANCEL SCREEN Phs CHANCEL/NAVE
Screen of five bays, the central bay being wider, interspersed by reeded posts. Each bay has perpendicular tracery above an ogee arch containing a septfoil arch. Overhanging concave cornice with composite moulded edges above and below. On the Nave side is a frieze carved with undulating vine leaves and grapes. On the Chancel side there is a carved Latin text in gothic capitals and l/c, appearing to be a reference from Psalm 90, vs 1
Domine refugium factus es nobis: a generatione in generationem
Translation: Lord you are a safe place for us: from generation to generation
At each end of the lettering there is a carved shield.
S side
Blazon: Crusilly fitchy three fleur de lys within a border engrailed (Sable) [Beresford] (ref a)
N side
Blazon: (Argent) a bear rampant (Sable) armed (Gules), chained (Or) (ref a)
E side of Chancel Screen
There is a carved date in gothic l/c lettering, AD 1910, within the tracery above the central bay. The lower edge of the cornice has a band of inverted brattishing.
There is a concave band of five embellished and painted panels across and below the cornice, the central panel being wider. The illustrations are of six angels, all with blue, red and yellow wings, and with robes in relief moulded in plaster and painted, from S. to N:
- An angel dressed in a white robe with a red overmantle holding a long strand of ivy attached to a censer
- An angel dressed in a white robe and a red cloak and holding a scroll with the words in sans serif caps:
AVE MAR / GRATIA PLENA /
Translation: Hail Mary, full of grace - Central panel has two angels dressed in white robes, one with a blue stole with flowing ends crossed over his chest, the other with a red scarf. They hold a red shield with a gold-coloured Sacred Monogram ‘IHS’ painted on it
- An angel dressed in armour and a white tunic with a Red Cross leaning on a sword and kneeling on one knee
- An angel wearing a white robe and swinging a censer on a rope
W side of Chancel Screen
Below a plain transom on each side, each of the bays is divided into three painted panels by moulded muntins, each section resting on a chamfered plinth. The panels are
headed by applied blind gothic tracery with each panel bearing the figure of a man painted below the tracery. There are twelve male figures of saints shown standing on a tiled pavement with a line from the Creed below this. The text is in black and red gothic caps and l/c upon a gold-coloured painted scroll. The name of each saint is painted in black sans serif caps on a gold-coloured background at shoulder height. The red letters are underlined below.
The figures are from N. to S:
- St. Peter: White-haired, bearded figure wearing a sashed, pale gold-coloured robe with a blue shawl, holding a book and a key

1 Candlestick with dished drip pan and turned, painted, gilded and marbled stem. Two compressed knops at top and botom of the stem with a compressed annulated knop below a flange on the upper part. Black and white band around the stepped, circular foot on three outward-facing protruding feet.

327 CHOIR STALLS Ph NAVE, W wall
1 Tiered benches in front of organ, with central steps to give access to organ and tower. Bench fronts to either side have six panels of pierced gothic tracery with cinquefoil arches and elongated trefoils within the spandrels. Ends of benches are rectangular with top moulding. Lower row of benches have close-boarded backs with angled bookrest at back for use of occupants of upper benches. Upper benches have close- boarded backs, shaped ends and moulded tops. Bench fronts have a moulded top rail with dentil moulding across the front surface. Fronts and benches are all on one plinth with two steps. The organist’s bench is set into the upper step.

1 Free-standing bench front topped with billeted carving under which are three rectangular panels with pierced, scrolled carving and below six recessed panels with applied gothic tracery. In each panel is a gothic arch with trefoil spandrels and under which there are two quatrefoils each framed within a roundel. Under each pair of roundels is a multifoil pendant-cusped ogee arch. Some of the pendants are missing. At the back is a horizontal bookrest with one end squared, the other rounded. Bookrest has two vertical supports.
